Anna Semple

Anna read music at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, between 2015 and 2018. Alongside her studies she was an Instrumental Award Holder (viola), and a Choral Scholar at Trinity Hall (2015-17) before spending a year with the Choir of Jesus College in her final year. She started composing whilst at school, but only began to pursue it more seriously at university, where she had supervisions with Ewan Campbell for three years. In Cambridge her works have performed in the chapels of Gonville and Caius, Robinson and Jesus colleges, St John’s Divinity School, the Heong Gallery at Downing and West Road Concert Hall by a variety of ensembles such as the Chapel Choir of Jesus College and the Malcolm Street Orchestra.

Having graduated, Anna now works at Headington School, Oxford, as the graduate assistant for music, and freelances as a singer and composer in her free time. She sings with Genesis 16, St Michael at the North Gate, regularly deputises in the choirs of New College, Christ Church and Magdalene Consort, and recently performed the role of Judith in the Korrigan Consort’s production of Vivaldi’s opera Judith Triumphans. Recent commissions include choral pieces for the Hexad Singers (March 2019), and the Choir of St John’s College, Cambridge (June 2019), along with recent premieres by Horizon Voices, and of her opera at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in June. Anna will be starting a Master’s in Composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in September
