Musicfest Online Classical Vocal Course 2021:
We are pleased to launch the Aberystwyth MusicFest Online Classical Vocal
Course 2021. The course will run over four days, culminating in a short online
concert given by the participants.
The tutors, Veronica Veysey Campbell and John Flinders, will explore the music
and text of songs chosen by the participants, highlighting aspects which help to
create informed and communicative performances.
There will be two 90-minute classes each day, with a lunch break in between;
each class will feature three songs. Participants will be provided with pre-recorded accompaniments to enable them to perform their chosen song (this can be either a ‘live’ rendition on the day, or participants may choose to record their performance in advance if they prefer). Ideally, participants will attend all sessions.
We aim to recreate, as closely as possible, the uniquely inspiring and
supportive atmosphere for which the Musicfest Vocal Course is renowned,
despite the inevitable differences between a ‘live’, one-to-one course and an online course.
If recruitment demands we will be delighted to expand the course by inviting
other members of the Musicfest Vocal Course team of tutors to join us.
The course is appropriate for singers aged 17 upwards. Applicants not already
known to the tutors may be asked to provide an audio recording to confirm
their suitability for the course. The tutors’ approach is informal, but always
supportive and encouraging with the aim that everyone leaves with even
greater enthusiasm for singing and with improved skills. The course aims to
cover many aspects of singing including: performance skills, technique,
interpretation, style, communication, languages, musicianship, confidence
building, and preparation for auditions.
The importance of attentively listening to other students being coached as well
as performing themselves is strongly emphasised throughout the course; the
coaching will be specific yet will also make general points that the participants
can apply to their own performances.
Successful applicants will submit choices of repertoire by Monday 8th June.
These will be a maximum of three pieces to be chosen from the following
categories: English art song, French mélodie, German Lied, operatic or
oratorio aria, Italian song and one piece of musical theatre. Final repertoire
selections will be made by the tutors and the students will be notified well in
advance of the course so that the music can be thoroughly prepared and memorised.
Course fee £395 (Bursaries available for all in full-time education. Including
international students) which includes access to Musicfest Streamed Concerts.
The Friends of Musicfest award bursaries towards tuition fees, but early
application is advisable. See the fees and bursaries page for further detail
