Jason Lewis is a twenty-seven year old trumpet player from Wales. He studied the trumpet at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama for four years with Philippe Schartz (principal trumpet BBC NOW), gaining a First Class Honours degree.
He has recently been on trial for sub principal trumpet of the BBC Philharmonic, and is currently on trial for SubPrincipal trumpet of the Ulster Orchestra. He has held the position of Principal Trumpet with the European Union Youth Orchestra and has gained a position in the Verbier Festival Orchestra for their 2015 tour.
By the age of eleven he was a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Wales. At the age of thirteen he passed Grade 8 on both cornet and trumpet with distinction. At fourteen, he successfully auditioned for a place on the National Youth Orchestra of Wales, and gained a place at the prestigious London Symphony Orchestra academy studying under Rod Franks and James Watson.
Since graduating from College, he has been working as a freelance trumpet player. Regular work includes: BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Welsh National Opera, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
He is the first trumpet in the quintet Concentus Brass Ensemble, which is an exiting group of freelance musicians based in London. As a group, they have become successfully involved in a busy outreach scheme involving local schools and educational projects, as well as many recitals and ceremony work across London.
