Course Description

The Musicfest Aberystwyth Summer School 2022 Trumpet Course is a great opportunity to improve your playing through an exciting week of classes exploring a variety of aspects of performing. We welcome applications from all trumpet players over the age of 16 on July 1st 2022 and of minimum ABRSM Grade 7 standard, though numbers may have to be limited. The course will run from Monday to Friday 10-12:30 and 2-5 comprising a variety of elements which may include orchestral, solo and trumpet ensemble repertoire and technique classes. We will explore topics such as practice methods and performance practice with the chance to work with resident pianist Edward Leung.

Applicants are invited to prepare two solo pieces. One further piece of baroque music would be welcomed as we will explore the natural trumpet and interpretation of baroque repertoire from a historically informed perspective. Repertoire choices should be submitted to Joan Rowlands, our Administrator, by July 1st.

Over the lunch break participants will have the opportunity to attend a lunchtime concert in the Great Hall, as well as a masterclass featuring a different discipline each day. At 6.30,  and 8.00 there will be further performances to which all Summer School attendees have free access. On the final Saturday all participants with have the chance to perform in a Showcase Concert. Most students, guest artists and tutors return home on the Sunday morning (31st July).

Course fee £595

Bursaries of around £260 for UK residents and £180 for overseas students, donated by The Friends of Musicfest, are available for all full-time students.

Accommodation is in Rosser Hall of Residence on the University Campus (self-catering small double rooms with en-suite facilities @ £41.00 per person per night)
