Dan Swana & Andy Scott
Assisted by Musicfest Junior Fellows Theo Gutenplan & Stan Scott.
Commencing with a playing & listening session, a specially and carefully selected number of jazz standards and original charts will form the basis of learning during the course and will be presented in daily evening jam sessions at Musicfest.
Equally appropriate to the experienced improvising musician as to the beginner, the ensemble will explore and delve deeply into jazz and improvised music. From listening and transcribing, to the theory of chord names and symbols, related chord tones and scales, discovering melody and rhythm, memorising lead sheets, discussing sound, style, inflections, the knowledge attained is a way of building assurance and confidence when performing.
An enjoyable and rewarding course, led by two highly experienced musicians/educators, Dan (piano) and Andy (saxophone) are joined by Junior Fellows Theo (drums) & Stan (bass) to form a ‘house band’ that will rehearse and play with everyone throughout the course.
Unlock the mystery of improvisation, discover different musical styles and feels, all within a friendly and welcoming environment, join us on the Jazz Course at Musicfest!
