An online course with director Toby Purser and associate director James Henshaw, working on Mozart and Stravinsky orchestral works, training in accompanied recit and chorus conducting, and including individual video analysis.

Toby Purser is Head of Conducting at the Royal College of Music, and James Henshaw is ENO’s greatly admired and Olivier Award-nominated previous Chorus Master.

The sessions will be held in groups of 4-5 students, and focus on how to approach the scores, decision-making and solutions, as well as working on technique and physical communication. There is a maximum of 10 participant places available.

Repertoire:

Stravinsky – Symphonies of Wind, 1947 Version.

Mozart – Die Zauberflöte Overture and Sprecherszene.

Verdi-  Triumphal March from Aida

Verdi – Patria Opressa from Macbeth

Boosey and Hawkes edition is preferable for the Stravinsky, and Bärenreiter for the Mozart, but any edition is possible for the sake of the classes. For the choruses, a vocal score is adequate, and a copy will be emailed to you before the course so that we all have the same edition. If you have any trouble finding a copy of any pieces, please contact Toby directly so that he can help.
