An opportunity to work intensively with Kari Ravnan on all aspects of cello playing. Teaching will take the form of individual lessons, workshops, discussions and performance classes. Participants should bring at least two contrasting works and some studies that they wish to work on. Kari would like to receive an indication of intended repertoire well before the start of the course. They will also be time for individual daily practice, which will be an integral part of the course. Cellists will also be assigned to chamber groups.
The course will be led by Kari Ravnan. Kari plays with the Oslo Philharmonic, is Artistic Director of the Horten Chamber Music Fest. and has been a member of the Zennor String Trio and Prometheus Ensemble in London and Borealis Ensemble in Oslo. She has taught at the Trondheim Music Conservatory and since 2008 at the Barratt Due Institute of Music. She has a special interest in teaching chamber music. Her students have won many competitions, including “Musician of the Year” of the Norwegian Music Competition for Youth, “Æresprisen” of the Sparre Olsen Competition and the bronze medal at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, Junior Division in the USA (the world’s largest chamber music competition for youth).
The cost of the course is £650 which includes a pass to all concerts during MusicFest. Bursaries are available for all students in full-time education.
