  • Andy Scott
For the first time Andy Scott will be directing the Saxophone Course at MusicFest. Through his saxophone playing, compositions and teaching, Andy, over the last 25 years, has developed a worldwide profile as an open-minded and highly versatile musician. From being multi-nominated and a winner of a British Composer Award, to commissioning, performing and recorded 100+ works with the Apollo Saxophone Quartet (est.1985), exploring free improvisation in an experimental Duo with internationally-respected percussionist Dave Hassell, freelancing with Psappha, Halle Orchestra, latin, funk and jazz ensembles, and writing, directing and performing with his nine-saxophone/rhythm section SaxAssault, Andy also brings a wealth of experience in music education to the table.
Andy writes;
“I’m very excited to be a part of the MusicFest team in 2016! My aim is to leave every individual saxophonist that attends the course feeling as if they’ve had a great time, worked hard and have lots of ideas to think about! Come along with an open musical mind, and we’ll explore all sorts of solo and ensemble opportunities. Regardless of style or genre, the common thread is two-fold; playing our instrument well and understanding what we’re doing when we’re playing, and getting inside the music i.e. understanding music which in turn breeds confidence in performance! An added bonus is that you will have the opportunity daily, if you choose to, to work with a fantastic rhythm section. It’s really a question of how much we can cram into a week!! I look forward to meeting and working with you in the beautiful surroundings of Aberystwyth in Summer 2016!”
The cost of the course is £595 which includes a pass to all concerts during MusicFest. Early bird discounts are available on all courses booked before 29th February. Bursaries are available for all students in full-time education.
